bar none...
by Will Bullas

The Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul are known worldwide for their good works and unfortunately, for this would-be anonymous bar patron, they’re also instantly recognizable. The cornette, or starched headdress, was an iconic part of the Daughters of Charity habit until the mid-1960s. Several years later, Sally Field’s cornette-inspired antics as The Flying Nun ensured the habit’s enduring place in pop culture history.

Will Bullas’ bar scenes comprise some of his most legendary images. From Crabernet to the hare club… to the bar exam…, his colorful characters and punny titles make a cool and offbeat scene out of any basement bar, restaurant or kitchen wall. Bring home this new release today and make your home the hippest place in town, bar none!

False Magic
by James C. Christensen

In the fantastic world of James C. Christensen’s paintings, fish are a symbol of magic and wisdom. “Their floating presence in the air reminds us that anything is possible,” says Christensen, “and those touched or surrounded by fish are considered truly blessed. When the fish don’t arrive, however, sometimes a person will take matters into his own hands, with compelling but less-than-convincing results.

“When The Greenwich Workshop first approached me about transforming False Magic into a bronze sculpture I was surprised, but it turned out to be a brilliant idea. As soon as we had constructed the rigging I knew it was going to be great; the creative work and art of many people have taken False Magic and made it real magic.” Meticulously crafted, superbly detailed and stunningly translated into three dimensions, this sculpture will provide real magic wherever it finds a home.

Rothschild Giraffe, Nakuru Park
by Guy Combes

With only several hundred animals remaining, the Rothschild Giraffe, also known as the Baringo or Ugandan Giraffe, is the second-most endangered giraffe subspecies on earth. Only a handful locations on earth can boast a Rothschild Giraffe population, including Lake Nakuru National Park in Kenya, where artist Guy Combes makes his home.

Combes’ father, artist Simon Combes, was instrumental in Lake Nakuru National Park for Rhino Rescue, which was responsible for fencing off the park to protect a newly introduced population of white and black rhinoceros.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Guy has been a part of committee action and has helped his stepmother, Kat, to continue this very important work. The results of Guy’s impressive efforts in the worlds of conservation and wildlife art will be featured in the Artists for Conservation Foundation’s first annual juried exhibition this coming September. The exhibition will be held at the Hiram Blauvelt Art Museum, where Guy is currently Artist in Residence.

"When this weather quits,...you can stiff'n your hat back up with sugar water,...n' hell,... if yer ever hard up for food,...you can eat the som-bitch!"
by Bob Coronato

“It’s not the Old West of the 1890s but Crook County, Wyoming in the early 1990s,” says artist Bob Coronato. “The people and the ways of this area are very much the same as they always were. I was drawn to the area because it’s the closest you can get to seeing the frontier the way it was. The big towns are hundreds of miles apart and the little towns are the glue that holds the frontier together. Brandings here are still a community effort and the ranchers still work the same way they did a hundred years ago.

“The ranches these days are disappearing. It is sad, but as the ranches disappear, the cowboys also disappear one by one.As the land gets developed the cowboy lifestyle fades fast. I was lucky to get a chance not only to see it at the end, but to take part.” Bob Coronato’s When This Weather Quits . . . will be featured in the 2008 Coeur D’Alene Art Auction July 26th in Reno, Nevada.

Sleeping Beauty
by Scott Gustafson

“When the king learned that his precious princess Briar Rose had been cursed to prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and sleep for a hundred years,” says Scott Gustafson, “he commanded every single one of the ominous devices in the kingdom to be destroyed. And so they were—except for one...

“It is exactly one century to the day and a young prince has come to see for himself if the ancient, thorn-shrouded castle is truly enchanted.Tiptoeing past the sleeping guards and up the grand staircase, he enters a darkened chamber. The mists of time swirl about his feet as light sifts through the overgrown windows. Drawing back the heavy curtain, he falls instantly in love with the sleeping princess who has been waiting, just for him, for one hundred years.”

Young at Heart
by Steve Hanks

“Each time I do an interview,” says Steve Hanks, “I am asked what my goals are. My answer is always, ‘the journey is the goal.’ People too often focus on getting that great house or career and spend their lives working for it. In the process, they miss out on the special times. It’s good to keep the important things in the foreground.”

The couple in Young at Heart has discovered a valuable secret to staying young: companionship and laughter. As they travel the mountain road together enjoying the scenery and one other’s company, their time-tested love brings them great happiness. This tender watercolor scene has been faithfully reproduced as a Greenwich Workshop Fine Art Gicle on Paper and will make an inspiring addition to any room of the house.

The Coming of the Iron Horse
by Frank C. McCarthy

Of all the innovations of the nineteenth century, none changed the landscape of the American West more than the steam locomotive .A monument to speed, industry and westward expansion, the locomotive charged across the landscape, changing the face of frontier life forever, but it did not happen overnight.

Past and present collided in the prairies and plains, as workers laying tracks for the trains met with resistance from local wildlife. Even the mighty locomotive engine itself, with all its power and might, occasionally ran into the unstoppable force of nature.

“Huge migrating herds of buffalo could stall a train for hours,” said Frank McCarthy. “For sport, travelers sometimes took potshots at them from the cars while they waited for the procession to pass.” It would not be long before progress and professional hide hunters rendered the threat of buffalo on train tracks nearly extinct.

Wrapped Fruit
by John Beder

“This is part of a series of small canvases,” says John Beder.“ Even though this is a small piece, it took about three days, as the details in the tissue and on the fruit are complex. My paintings are inspired by the way natural light reveals the shape, color and texture of each subject. My son, who got the physics degree I wanted but didn't get, described my work as ‘romance with reality.’ I'll qualify that by saying that my work is as much about the role imagination plays in perception as it is about the careful scrutiny and depiction of ‘reality.’ We all conceive and construct what we think is real. It's the individual interpretation that makes realist painting so fascinating.”

Kickin' Up Dust
by Jan Martin McGuire

“I enjoy painting pronghorn antelope because they are such unique animals,” says Jan Martin McGuire. “They’re not really antelope but are more related to a type of chamois found in the European Alps. They have exceedingly good eyesight and are the fastest land animals found in North America. I wanted to portray this antelope’s swiftness by angling him toward the viewer, almost off the page—before long, he’ll be gone in a cloud of dust!”

Lemon Spirals
by Donna Surprenant
